The white PSP Slim & Lite is the second generation (PSP 2000) of the PSP, weighing 189gms, which is nearly 33% lighter than its predecessor. This model was released a couple of years ago.
To achieve the slim and light look, some very radical changes had to be brought into the hardware. The newer PSP Slim & Lite came without a metal chassis and hence lesser bulk. A radical change in the PSP Go is the complete elimination of the UMD. The Go comes with 16 GB of internal flash memory that can be extended up to 32 GB.
Games can now be directly downloaded to the device from the PlayStation Store. The Go also supports Bluetooth connectivity in addition to the other features of the PSP.
White PSP - Design
The white PSP console could well be the most aesthetically designed portable gaming consoles currently available. The body feels solid and the controls are comfortable on the fingers. Though not one of the lightest consoles around at 280 gms, the PSP does not weigh down on the user.
The candy bar console is currently available in eleven different colours across the globe: piano black, ceramic white, ice silver, mystic silver, rose pink, deep red, champagne gold, Felicia blue, mint green, lavender purple, and metallic blue. But only the piano black is universally available.
The majority of the console is occupied by the 4.3 inch display (16.77 million colors) which is flanked by the controls.
The directional keypad is placed to the left of the screen, and the square, triangle, circle, and X buttons are to the right. The designers have also managed to squeeze in an analog joystick below the directional controls. Two shoulder buttons complete the controller set of the PSP.
Sony’s proprietary UMD (Universal Media Disk) drive is placed at the back. The UMD is an optical media with a protective covering that is holds all the games and movies playable on the PSP. The console also holds a Memory Stick Duo reader on the left.
The device houses an infrared and an USB 2.0 port on the top edge enabling connectivity with the computer or the mobile.
White PSP - The User Interface
The White PSP features the CrossMediaBar Graphical user interface for navigation. The CrossMediaBar popularly known as XMB has icons spread horizontally across the screen. These icons are actually categories which group the options available to the user.
Navigation moves the icons horizontally and selection of an icon brings up several others which are spread horizontally. This unique system eliminates the use of a cursor and offers a more organized view of categories.
The XMB of the PSP comes with 7 different categories: Settings, Photo, Music, Video, Game, Network, and PlayStation Network. The XMB can be personalized by changing the colors and order of the icons. Further customizations can be done by changing the theme of the XMB.
The XMB is based on the OS of the PSP (also known as system software) which can be upgraded directly via the internet or from the memory stick.
White PSP - Hardware Overview
The excellent design of the PSP is complemented by the hardware that runs it. The console runs on two 333 MHz MIPS32 R4000-based CPUs and a GPU with 2 MB onboard VRAM running at 166 MHz. The processors are supported by 32 MB main RAM and 4 MB embedded DRAM in total.

Sony immediately started work on the development of the PlayStation2, which became available to consumers around nine years ago, which is a long time in consumer electronics. The PS2 upped the ante with its processing and graphic power. A couple of years later then introduced the ability to play online games using the PS2.
Four years ago the PlayStation Portable reached the market, once again taking portable gaming into a new era in terms of processing power and graphics. Several variations of the PSP have now been released and the PSP Go represents the next stage in the development of the PSP range. It is quite well known that if you want to buy a cheap white PSP then select a package with a game and a Playstation Portable called a PSP games bundle.
Three years ago, Sony released the Playstation3. The intellectual property and sophisticated technology put awesome power into the hands of the consumer. Not only was the PS3 significantly more powerful, but Sony had made sure it remained backwards compatable with previous generations of games to make it easier for people to upgrade. The PS3 incorporated high resolution graphics processing, a hard disk and Ethernet connections which meant that it was designed for online gaming.
